Monday, January 23rd, 7:00pm - 8:30pm, JG 102A
The Columbia Business and Law Association is thrilled to kick off our 2017 programming with a case study on the inside mechanics of a large public company merger. Please join attorneys from Cravath, Swaine & Moore as they walk us through the Weyerhaeuser and Plum Creek merger, which resulted in a $23 billion valuation for the firm's client. Cravath attorneys will discuss the steps of the deal, the roles taken by associates, and how the deal team handled road bumps along the way. Dinner will be served and there will be time at the end for you to ask questions and meet the attorneys.
Thursday, November 17th, 8:00pm – 9:00pm; Lenfest Cafe
John Nathanson of Shearman & Sterling will present on the firm’s ground-breaking victory for client Todd Newman, formerly of Diamondback Capital Management. The Second Circuit Court of Appeals overturned Newman’s insider trading conviction with instructions to dismiss the indictment against him with prejudice.

After being charged with two felony counts of securities fraud, he collaborated for nearly 7 years as an FBI informant in “Operation Perfect Hedge,” the largest insider trading investigation of the past 25 years, leading to over 80 guilty pleas or convictions.
